PYM-USA LAUNCHES PALESTINIAN YOUTH DELEGATION TO SOUTH AFRICA

The Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) is pleased to announce the launch of its 2019 Palestinian youth delegation to South Africa. Hosted by the Afro-Middle East Centre (AMEC), the PYM is convening 20 Palestinian youth organizers from the United States, Palestine, the Arab region, Europe, and South Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa for a 10-day study program, from April 1 to April 11.
The purpose of the delegation is to assess the current condition of the Palestinian national struggle through a comparative lens with South Africa’s anti-Apartheid and anticolonial/decolonial struggle and ongoing challenges of economic and racial inequity. Through lectures, seminar discussions, visits to landmark sites of historical struggle, and meetings with South African political figures, community leaders and youth activists, the delegation will explore the following questions:
How can engagement with South African political contexts and struggles further the apartheid analogy framing that has become so vital to Palestine solidarity organizing internationally?
What are the parallels and distinctions between the different forms of colonization and apartheid that have and continue to oppress Palestinians and South Africans alike?
What lessons can we, as Palestinian youth, learn from the South African context and apply or avoid in our ongoing political organizing and vision for a future, liberated Palestine?
How can we, as Palestinian youth, develop a joint-struggle praxis to support South Africans in light of the contemporary political context in which structures of inequality inherent to apartheid persist?
PYM sees such a project to be a historically and politically vital intervention in a moment of heightening boycott, divestment, and sanctions efforts yet intensifying Zionist colonization and repression and Palestinian dispersion and fragmentation. The apparent void and lack of cohesion in the Palestinian national struggle, particularly since the 1993 Oslo Accords, necessitates forums for Palestinians to collectively engage and debate.
We welcome this delegation as a unique opportunity to engage in transnational Palestinian mobilizing at the heart of PYM’s tradition of facilitating spaces for Palestinian youth to convene internationally. Participants will engage in an in-depth, post-delegation political assessment that we hope will lead to the production of political analysis and popular education campaigns around these issues. By bringing together Palestinian youth from various social and political backgrounds currently residing in eight different countries worldwide, this delegation marks a revival of this tradition and practically rejects the fragmentations that racial, colonial and imperial regimes seek to impose upon Palestinians globally. Through this delegation, we hope to deepen our understanding of alternative possibilities for solidarity across struggles and for our own Palestinian national organizing.
From Turtle Island to South Africa to Palestine, we recognize that freedom is a global cause. Through joint struggle, we are indivisible and unstoppable. Free the People! Free the Land!

حركة الشباب الفلسطيني فرع الولايات المتحدة تنظم بعثة شبابية إلى جنوب أفريقيا

تعلن حركة الشباب الفلسطيني إرسال وفدها لسنة 2019 إلى جنوب افريقيا باستضافة المركز الافريقي-الشرق \أوسطي الذي يضمّ 20 من الناشطين الشباب الفلسطينيين من كل من الولايات المتحدة، فلسطين، الوطن العربي، أوروبا، وجنوب أفريقيا إلى مدينة جوهانسبرج الجنوب إفريقية، حيث سيشاركون في برنامج دراسي لمدة 10 أيام من 1 - 11 نيسان/أبريل الجاري.
ويهدف البرنامج الدراسي إلى تقييم الوضع الحالي للنضال الوطني الفلسطيني من خلال مقارنته مع النضال الجنوب إفريقي ضد التمييز العنصري والاستعمار، والتحديات المستمرة المتعلقة بانعدام العدالة الاقتصادية والعرقية. كما سيشارك الوفد في محاضرات ونقاشات وزيارات ميدانية لمواقع تاريخية متعلقة بالكفاح الجنوب إفريقي من جهة، واللقاء مع شخصيات سياسية جنوب إفريقية وزعماء و ناشطين شباب من جهة أخرى، على بحث القضايا التالية
كيف يمكن لارتباطنا بالنضال الجنوب إفريقي أن يرسخ إستخدام كلمة "apartheid" والتي كانت ملازمة لحكومة جنوب أفريقيا العنصرية لتشمل حكومة الاحتلال في الأراضي الفلسطينية، وخاصة بعد أن بات هذا التشبيه أساس لحركة التضامن الفلسطيني العالمي؟
ما هي أوجه الشبه والاختلاف بين الأشكال المختلفة للاستعمار والتمييز العنصري التي كان ولا زال يتعرض لها الشعبين الفلسطيني والجنوب إفريقي، على حد سواء؟
ماذا يمكننا كشباب فلسطيني أن نتعلم من التجربة الجنوب إفريقية ويمكننا تطبيقه أو تجنّبه في سياق العمل السياسي الفلسطيني الحالي، ومستقبلاً في فلسطين بعد التحرير؟
كيف بإمكاننا كشباب فلسطيني أن نطور استراتيجيات نضال مشترك لدعم الجنوب إفريقيين بضوء المنظومة السياسية المعاصرة التي تعمل على دعم واستدامة عدم المساواة المتأصلة بنظام التمييز العرقي؟
ترى حركة الشباب الفلسطيني أن أهمية هذا المشروع يكمن بما فيه من مشاركة شبابية تخوض دراسة تاريخية وسياسية وحيوية تلتقي مع ما يُبذل من جهود المقاطعة وسحب الاستثمارات والعقوبات المترافقة رداً على التصعيد الاستعماري ضد الفلسطينيين. كما تبرز أهمية هذا المشروع الدراسي كمنصة تجمع الفلسطينيين بهدف النقاش والعمل المشترك، بعيداً عن الانقسام السياسي الداخلي، وضعف القيادة السياسية الفلسطينية وتراجعها المستمر في ساحة النضال الوطني الفلسطيني، وخصوصاً بعد اتفاقية أوسلو في 1993.
وننظر إلى هذه البعثة كفرصة فريدة للعمل الفلسطيني المشترك العابر للحدود والذي يحتلّ مكانة مهمة في أولويات حركة الشباب الفلسطيني التي تسعى لتأمين مساحات للشباب الفلسطيني للتشبيك عالمياً. إذ ينخرط المشاركون بعد انتهاء البعثة في تقييم سياسي معمقّ نأمل أن يؤدي إلى صياغة تحليلات سياسية وحملات تعليم شعبية حول المواضيع التي جرى التعرف عليها خلال البعثة.
باجتماع الشباب الفلسطيني القادم من عدّة خلفيات اجتماعية وسياسية والمقيم في ثماني دول مختلفة يمثل رفضاً عملياً لسياسات التشتيت التي تسعى الأنظمة العنصرية والاستعمارية والامبريالية لفرضها على الفلسطينيين على الصعيد العالمي. ونأمل أن تكون هذه البعثة وسيلة لتعميق فهمنا لوسائل تضامن بديلة، وللعمل النضالي الفلسطيني.
من جزيرة السلحفاة موطن السكان الأمريكيين الأصليين في أمريكا الشمالية مروراً بإفريقيا حتى فلسطين، إن الحرية هي قضية نضال عالمي. فمن خلال النضال المشترك لا يمكن تفريقنا أو إيقافنا.
